VILLA-LOBOS - Sinfonietta No. 1
Heitor Villa-Lobos has been described as “the single most significant creative figure in 20th-century Brazilian art music.” His music is influenced by both Brazilian folk music and by stylistic elements from the European classical tradition.
ROMERO/TORROBA - Concierto de Malaga for Guitar and Orchestra
This piece, written by Celedonio Romero and performed by his son Pepe Romero, is a tribute to their home town of Málaga, Spain. Orchestrations by Spanish composer Federico Moreno Torroba.
GINASTERA - Variaciones Concertantes
Argentine Alberto Evaristo Ginastera (1916-1983) is considered one of the most important Latin American classical composers. Written in 1953, during a difficult period of political conflicts with the Perón government, this folkloric piece will end the evening with a rousing finish!
Music in the lobby is provided by the LBSO for your listening enjoyment, featuring the University Woodwind Quintet from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSULB.
